Unit 5 Weeks 2 & 3

Up In The Sky and Great Inventions

EQ:  What can you see in the sky? / What inventions do you know about?

Genre: Fantasy

High-Frequency Words:  another, climb, full, great, poor, through, began, better, guess, learn, right, sure

Vocabulary Words: leaped, stretched, idea, unusual

Oral Vocabulary Words: certain, observe, remained, thoughtful, vast, complicated, curious, device, imagine, improve

Phonics: Words with /ur/ and /or/

Writing Traits: Word Choice

Grammar: Adjectives, capitalizing days, months, and holidays

Chapter 12 - Length, Weight, and Capacity

Lessons 12.1- 12.3

This week students will be working on comparing, exploring, and ordering length.

Chapter Benchmarks: Students will compare and order objects according to descriptors of length, weight, and capacity. Students will measure using iterations of a unit and count the unit measures by grouping units. Students will solve routine and non-routine problems by acting them out, using manipulatives, and drawing diagrams.

Science

Unit #7 - Living Things and Their Parents

Students took the Unit 6 benchmark on Tuesday to end Unit 6. In Unit 7 students will learn that offspring of plants and animals are similar to, but not exactly like, their parents or each other.

Unit Benchmark: Make observations that plants and animals closely resemble their parents, but variations exist among individuals within a population.

Unit Vocabulary: parent, trait
